General Signals
In the Spider it is possible to be informed by the usage of General Signals. These give an operator information such as whether an import process is still running or whether the mailbox is still accessible.
The Robot activates a General signal. If this works, the process is running smoothly. If the robot does not activate the General signal, it could indicate that the process is stalled for some reason. This could be because the application is not accessible, or the process cannot continue for other reasons.
This is the reason why the General Signals are visible on the main screen.
Statuses
There are a number of statuses available for General signal.
Status | Description |
---|---|
The robot activates the General Signal within the agreed time. The robot is assumed to be still running properly. | |
The robot missed an activation so it did not report within the agreed time. | |
The robot did not reach its time limit. |
Conditions
The robot must be active and able to activate the general signal from a process. Thus, a "Red" status need not be bad if the process does not depend on it or if the process has already done its work.
Example 1
The robot should have addressed the General Signal once every day. If this is not the case, after 1 day the status is set to orange. Then after 10 minutes (so 1 day + 10 minutes) the status is set to red.
Check every:
Days | Hours | Minutes |
---|---|---|
1 | 0 | 0 |
- The robot should have addressed the General Signal once every day.
- If it is not, it becomes orange.
- After 1 + 10 minutes, the status is set to Red.
Days | Hours | Minutes |
---|---|---|
0 | 0 | 10 |
Example 2
Check every:
Days | Hours | Minutes |
---|---|---|
0 | 0 | 5 |
- The robot should activate the General Signal every 5 minutes.
- If the General Signal is not activated in 5 minutes then the status becomes orange.
- After 5 + 10 minutes, the status is set to Red.

From version 1.8.0, the option to activate or deactivate inactive General Signals has been added so that the dashboard no longer shows inactive General Signals.
Because the General Signals play a prominent role within the Spider for process monitoring, they are on the Landing page of the Spider dashboard.
